Explanation of Charges and Rates
A complete copy of the current rates, terms, and conditions are available al the Princeton Municipal Light Department (PMLD). All bills are due upon receipt and reflect the previous month's usage. Cash, Check, Money Order and Online payments are accepted—MasterCard (No Visa accepted), Discover and American Express credit cards are accepted through the Uni bank Online payment system (additional credit card company transaction fees will apply).

Customer Charge: | A set charge per type of service based on the fixed cost incurred to provide electric service that is unrelated to the amount of energy consumed per customer. This charge may include expenses related to meter reading, field office expenses, distribution of electricity and maintenance of utility poles, wires, transformers and other distribution equipment. |
Energy: | Per kWh charge for energy & capacity. |
Transmission: | Per kWh charge for regional and local transmission service delivering energy to the PMLD system. |
Distribution: | Per kWh charge for PMLD infrastructure and operations. |
Wind Farm Charges: | The per kWh charge for Turbine debt & operation and per kWh Credit for Turbine production. |
Finance Charge: | A charge of 1.5% will be applied against any unpaid balance 60+ days old carried forward each month. |
Purchase Power Cost Adjustment: | Changes in the cost of fuel, transmission, and other expenses based on contractual or adjudicated agreements or charges related to outside influences beyond our control. |
Termination of Service Policy: | PMLD has the right to terminate service if a bill is not paid within forty-five (45) days of receipt. Notice must be rendered to the customer at least seventy-two (72) hours prior to the said termination. Termination may be effected between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, Monday through Thursday. The customer will be informed of their rights and responsibilities in writing with the notice of termination. If termination does occur, the customer is responsible for paying PMLD a meter reconnect fee in addition to the outstanding balance due. |
PMLD Invoice Related Policies: | A 5% discount is available to Residential Rate and Solar Residential Rate customers through the 20th of each month if the bill is paid in full at the start of business on the 21 st day of each month and is at the discretion of the department. If the 20th is a Saturday, Sunday or Holiday the discount is extended to the next business day. No discount will be allowed on the Monthly Meter & Service Charge or any other charge that may be applied. Budget Plans are available for customers who desire a series of equalized payments. Customers will be charged for all repair work to electrical lines and equipment located on the customer's property. Security Deposits may require any Customer, upon application for service or at any time, to furnish a security deposit in the form of cash or check; rental houses $600, apartments $300, as permitted by applicable law or regulation. For new commercial and industrial Customers, PMLD will calculate the amount of the security deposit based on the information reasonably available for electric usage for the type of business in which the Customer is engaged. PMLD may adjust the amount of the security deposit as necessary consistent with the Customer's usage history and as otherwise may be necessary to ensure that the full deposit is maintained. The security deposit may be maintained for the full term of service. Interest on security deposits held longer than six months shall be paid to the Customer or credited to the Customer's account in accordance with applicable laws or regulations. PMLD may waive the security deposit, in its sole discretion, when payment of the charges may be secured through other means. The customer has the right to dispute the company's compliance with the proper application of rates or charges. Such action can be done in writing or in person. PMLD will make every effort to resolve a customer's issue or complaint. If the issue or complaint remains unresolved, the customer has the right lo appeal to the Department of Public Utilities, Consumer Division.
